Job Overview
The Cytotechnologist Senior performs the duties of a technical trainer in the cytology laboratory. Responsibilities include assisting the supervisor with training, scheduling and assigning duties, coordinating quality control procedures, troubleshooting, maintaining procedure manuals, training and documenting method evaluations, and inventory control in the primary area of responsibility. The role performs In Situ Hybridization techniques, assists with deep Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and Ultrasound Guided Fine Needle Aspiration (US-FNA), examines cell samples, and makes primary diagnoses on all cases (GYN, Non-gyn, FNA). The candidate must demonstrate initiative and good judgment to reach quality decisions and will lead the cytology staff in their primary areas. The position is responsible for placing orders for equipment and supplies for Cytology, CDC, and Surgical Pathology, and acts as a technical specialist evaluating new technologies for accuracy, precision, and economy.
Licensure and Certification
- Certified as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology within 6 months of employment.
- Current CT (ASCP) required for continued employment.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical work experience as a Cytotechnologist.
- Experience in deep FNA, US-FNA, and In Situ Hybridization techniques preferred for specific laboratory assignments.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Science (Cytotechnology Track) from an accredited program required.
- Master's Degree in Health Education, Cytotechnology or Clinical Lab Science from an accredited program preferred.

- Follow appropriate communication channels with cytology supervisor and management.
- Assume supervisory responsibilities in the supervisor's absence.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
- Lifting less than 20 lbs.
- Prolonged standing.
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, read, logical thinking.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent customer interactions, adapt to change.
- Visual acuity requirement.
