Job Overview

HCA Florida West Hospital is hiring a Cytotechnologist at 8383 North Davis Highway, Pensacola, FL 32514.

Responsibilities

  • Stains, mounts and studies cells of the human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions, following established standards and practices; prepares microscopic slides from specimens of blood, scrapings or other bodily exudates and fixes stains and slides to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under the microscope.
  • Examine cell samples to detect abnormal hormone conditions.
  • Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape or size of cellular components and patterns.
  • Evaluate cells for the presence of cancer, precancerous changes or infections.
  • Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs), to detect abnormal conditions.
  • Provide patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports.
  • Assist pathologists or other physicians in collecting cell samples such as by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies.
  • Perform quality assurance in the laboratory, including maintenance of the system in accordance with the requirements of the College of American Pathologists and preparation for site visits.
  • Prepare slides and reports in a timely fashion, ensuring QC standards are met.
  • Maintain procedures and records to meet all regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department.
  • Actively seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and use it to report potential patient safety issues.
  • Follow established guidelines for reporting significant medical errors or unanticipated outcomes that result in patient harm.
  • Attend in-service presentations and complete all mandatory education requirements; use a Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
  • Maintain regular, punctual, and dependable attendance.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree required.
  • Florida License Cytotechnologist required.
  • C.T. (ASCP) preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience preferred.
