Overview

Independently performs routine and special procedures on patient specimens.

Essential Responsibilities

• Microscopically screen gynecologic and non‑gynecologic slides containing cells from all body sites. Meets the minimum screening output standard. Microscopically screens gynecologic slides utilizing imager technology.
• Prepare and process specimens and assist pathologists, radiologists and clinicians with fine‑needle aspirates, as needed, following departmental policies and safety guidelines.
• Operate, calibrate, check and maintain instrumentation. Recognize problems with quality control and test procedures and take appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
• Participate in continuing educational programs to stay updated with current and changing technologies. Assist in training other health care providers.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient departmental operations. Participate and successfully complete annual proficiency testing.
• Select specimens that must be submitted for pathologist review, quality control and quality assurance.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an ASCP‑eligible program or a bachelor’s degree and one year of certificate program training.

Preferred Qualifications

• CT (ASCP)
• Clinical cytotechnologist experience
