Cytotechnologist - Anatomical Pathology - Kings Hwy

Job Overview

This role involves microscopic screening and diagnosis of gynecological and miscellaneous specimens. The incumbent assists in collection and preparation of fine‑needle aspiration specimens, performs ancillary preparation, clerical and quality control duties when needed, enters negative gynecological results into the computer, and participates in on‑site cytology and ongoing continuing education opportunities. The work requires maintaining confidentiality of patient‑related information.

Responsibilities

Key duties include:

• Ensuring clinical competency and exhibiting professional accountability.
• Supporting departmental goals and objectives.
• Adhering to regulatory agency compliance.
• Adapting behaviors to the specific patient population, including privacy respect, patient introduction, explaining services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style.
• Other related duties as required.
• Remaining knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to the area of responsibility and ensuring compliance.
• Reporting any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, patient/employee safety concerns, patient privacy issues, or other compliance‑related concerns.

Education, Experience, and Certification

Education Required: Bachelor's degree and graduation from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation accredited school of cytotechnologist or another organization approved by Health and Human Services. Certification as a cytotechnologist by a certification agency approved by HHS (e.g., American Society of Clinical Pathologists) is required.

Work Experience Required: None.

Certification Required: C.T. (ASCP) registered. Louisiana CYT license or eligibility is required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

The role is predominantly sedentary, involving sitting for long periods with occasional walking or standing. The employee may need to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, or negligible force frequently, to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to travel between facilities.

Routine duties may expose the employee to blood, body fluid, tissue, hazardous medications, or hazardous waste. The risk of exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials exists.
