Stellantis is looking to expand our skilled trades ranks to staff these positions immediately.Cutter Grinders are skilled employees who perform various types of precision grinding utilizing machines and their related equipment and attachments to sharpen and form cutting tools, such as drills, milling cutters and inserted tooth cutters, reamers, broaches, hobs, tool bits, punches, including tools of tungsten carbide and special tool steels. The candidate will utilize practical skill and knowledge as a Cutter Grinder to analyze specifications, set up and operate machine tools and repair cutting tools. The work requires interpreting specifications, blueprints, manufacturers' manuals, sketches or similar documents.
The Cutter Grinder plans the sequence of operation and materials required according to knowledge of computer technology, such as computer aided design (CAD), or computer aided manufacturing (CAM), to perform complex cutter grinding operations. The Cutter Grinder will test and inspect the tools and cutter grinder equipment to ensure that they are true to the original design and function properly. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills will be necessary.Basic Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent (GED)Basic knowledge of mathematics, algebra and physicsA combination of four (4) years of documented experience and/or training as a Cutter GrinderAbility, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:Work any shift and work overtime, including daily, weekends and holidays as requiredSet up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to cut, bore, grind or sharpen tools to prescribed dimensions and finishesOperate CNC preset equipment such as Royal, Zoller, etc.Perform problem solving tasks in a highly automated and dynamic manufacturing environmentPerform set-ups and operations of various types of tools, cutter grinders and other grinding machines to fabricate all types of tools and cuttersSharpen or modify tools, milling cutters, drills, reamers, etc.
involving special contours, compound angles and radii to required specificationsPerform preventative maintenance on machinery as requiredWork from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to perform cutter grinder activitiesVerify dimensions and surface of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicatorsPerform tests with completed tools to ensure that parts meet specifications and make adjustments as necessarySelect materials to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerancesPerform incidental tasks as required to complete the larger task
