CustodianThe job of Custodian is done for the purpose(s) of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.Required Qualifications:High school diploma, GED or equivalentSocial Security CardProof of immunity to Measles and German MeaslesValid picture IDFingerprint/background clearance (upon employment)Preferred Qualifications:Job-related experienceSuch alternatives to the above required & preferred qualifications as the Superintendent/Designee may find appropriate and acceptable.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and eventsAttends in-service training (e.g. new methods, equipment, blood-borne pathogens, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new or improved methods and/or equipmentCleans school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environmentEvaluates situations (e.g. involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolutionInforms students, other site personnel and supervisor(s) for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilitiesInspects school site for the purpose of ensuring safety and cleanliness and identifying necessary repairs due to vandalismOversees general helper(s) for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting shift requirementsPrepares reports (e.g. work orders, requisitions, etc.) for the purpose of documenting informationRepairs various items (e.g.
plumbing, irrigation, door locks, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working conditionRequests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilitiesResponds to emergency situations (e.g. injured students, broken windows, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concernsSecures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and/or liability and ensuring safety at work siteAssists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activitiesPerform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/DesigneeSkills, Knowledge and Abilities:Skills are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing equipment used in profession.Knowledge is required to perform basic math, understand written procedures, write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step oral and written instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: various position-specific information learned on-the-job.Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings and/or events; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods.
Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the Organization's services.Work Environment:The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and some finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking and 25% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
