Posting Context Statement - The Custodian position works in Campus Services providing cleaning support to their assigned area. This role reports to Campus Services, the largest unit in Auxiliary Services, and works primarily in the residence halls or multi-use facilities (Idaho Student Union Building, ICCUArena, PF1CU Kibbie Dome and others). This role is critical in ensuring all buildings in Campus Services are a clean and welcoming environment for the students, staff, and community members who utilize our services. Though often behind the scenes, our work shapes the student experience and supports recruitment, retention, and institutional success.

Position Overview - The position is responsible for maintaining clean and orderly facilities for students, faculty, staff and visitors. As part of a self-directed team, the position will take initiative to schedule cleaning and maintenance activities. Duties may include:

  • Perform basic cleaning, sanitization and trash collection in and around residences halls and university buildings
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Notify occupants of cleaning and floor maintenance schedules
  • Maintain clean and clear walkways, ensuring they are free of debris, litter, snow and ice
  • Respond to emergencies and assist other departments when needed to ensure optimum service
  • Ensure that assigned rooms and buildings are opened and locked as scheduled
  • Assist with training new employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Required Experience - Performing cleaning tasks Working in a team-oriented environment

Required Education - None

Required Other - Be at least 18 years of age Possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles

Additional Preferred - Experience operating industrial high-speed cleaning equipment; performing minor maintenance on custodial equipment; and explaining the use and maintenance of custodial equipment Expressed interest in learning and acquiring skills related to custodial services

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions - Must be able to: Climb ladders, bend and stoop Lift, carry or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday Work in inclement weather conditions
