The Community for Rigor (C4R) is a growing and innovative team atthe University of Pennsylvania dedicated to changing researchculture by providing comprehensive educational materials, promotingbest practices, and fostering a community committed to improvingresearch reliability. Community for Rigor is a 6-year fundedproject from NIH NINDS, and operates as a hub that coordinates theefforts of multiple partner institutions.
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Project manage two collaborative working pods in collaborationwith the Director of Operations and the Director of UserResearch.
- Lead a pod of curriculum developers through the design andrevision of educational units, setting direction and fosteringthoughtful, creative work.
- Working with the Curriculum Team and leadership, create visionfor future direction of C4R resources, including novel formats,expanding existing work, new product types, etc.
- Write and shape instructional content in alignment withexisting style and format, including design educational content andweb applications, and prototyping new ways to teach rigor alongsidethe team.
- Review all C4R educational content for consistency andclarity.
- Bring subject-matter judgment to content decisions, and weighfeedback from collaborators and reviewers to distinguish coreissues from surface fixes.
- Cultivate the processes that keep unit production moving,turning big-picture goals into clear priorities.
- Represent the Curriculum Team within C4R's leadership andgovernance, co-leading product decisions and enhancing coordinationacross teams.
- Serve as the voice of curriculum development and vision inconversations with external partners (funders, stakeholders, andinstitutions).
- Present C4R content to audiences when needed (includinginstruction to test audiences) and travel to conferences torepresent C4R (travel requirement <10%).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and two to three years of experience in ahigher education setting or an equivalent combination of educationand experience. Master's degree preferred. Preference forbackground in Neuroscience or related field.
- Experience leading a team or group toward shared goals,including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Expertise in scientific training, and rigor and reproducibilityissues, especially in the biomedical sciences.
- Familiarity with evidence-based pedagogy and instructionaldesign.
- Demonstrated ability to create effective and engaginginstructional content, including text, interactive activities,audio/visual scripts, etc.
- Strong writing and documentation skills, including providingwritten feedback and updating internal knowledge basedocuments.
- Ability to teach varied audiences and represent a team toexternal partners and stakeholders.
- Interest in developing new skills and taking on newresponsibilities as the project evolves.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience coordinating work across teams in amulti-stakeholder or multi-institution setting.
- Hands-on technical fluency with interactive educationalcontent, web applications, games, etc.
- Experience with coding in Python and/or Javascript.
- Familiarity with AI tooling for content development, such asClaude Code and system-prompt design.
- Experience creating educational multimedia (graphics, audiorecordings, video clips, interactive simulations).
- Experience with proof-reading and copyediting.
- Certified Instructor for The Carpentries or similarcertification.
- Familiarity with explicit teaching / explicitinstruction.
- Familiarity with project management tools or systems(Monday.com, Trello, Asana, Jira, etc.).
- Availability to work in the office minimum once a week.Application for remote work will be considered but hybrid stronglypreferred.
