Essential Functions

  • Maintains equipment for proper diagnostic imaging.
  • Maintains equipment by cleaning daily.
  • Notes any system problems to alert service engineer.
  • Alerts supervisor of system problems and when a service engineer has been alerted.
  • Maintains supplies by stocking rooms daily.
  • Sets up and adjusts equipment dependent on the exam.
  • Sets up equipment and calibrates unit.
  • Sets control according to exam standard for slice thickness and bed increment.
  • Checks all dose limits that will be needed for each exam being performed.
  • Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements; explains and prepares the patient for the exam requested.
  • Goes to waiting room, dressing rooms and corridors to accept patient.
  • Assesses patient needs to determine proper handling.
  • Explains procedure to patients to prepare them for the examination.
  • Answers all questions patient may have about examination.
  • Assists in the administration and administers appropriate contrast agents in order to render specific organs or systems more opaque.
  • Performs IV access, using sterile technique, for administration of contrast.
  • Marks all I.V. supplies properly.
  • Reviews patient charts and requests with the Radiologist to assure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained.
  • Reviews patient charts checking physician orders.
  • Reviews with the Radiologist requests and charts for proper examination.
  • Communicates with patient units to assure timely transport and completion of exam request.
  • Quality controls all images, maintains inventory and adheres to safety regulations.
  • Checks all images to assure quality of exam.
  • Checks all image transfers complete and correct, using image transfer management equipment.
  • Adheres to safety regulations for both patient and employee safety.
  • Checks inventory of contrast, IV supplies and paper products daily.
  • Trains department personnel, including students, on how to perform a CAT Scan.
  • Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain the maximum diagnostic image corresponding to body parts.
  • Reviews exam request to determine area of interest.
  • Uses practical knowledge of anatomy for proper positioning to obtain maximum diagnostic information, as evidenced by the image taken.
  • Follows set department protocols for imaging area of interest.

  • Prior to the start of any invasive procedures, a final verification to confirm the correct patient, procedure, site, and information is done.
  • Verifies patient according to policy prior to administration of care/procedures/medications.
  • Follows approved procedure for verifying MD orders including a verbal read back to the licensed independent practitioner after receiving a telephone order.
  • Complies with the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper hand washing, as observed by nurse manager and peers.
  • Consistently follows the South Shore Hospital policy to mark surgical sites.
  • Makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Adheres to respiratory etiquette guidelines.
  • Adheres to universal precautions.
  • Appropriately disposes of hazardous materials.
  • Adheres to electrical safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Formal training in Radiology Technology from an AMA approved program.
  • Minimum of three to four (3–4) years radiologic experience and special procedures experience preferred.
  • One (1) year exposure or training in CT to be proficient.
  • Computed Tomography (CT) certification – The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Computed Tomography (MA) certification – Radiation Control Program (Massachusetts).
  • BLS – Basic Life Support (AHA) within 180 days of hire.
  • Full‑time options available: all shifts. Also open to part‑time and per diem schedules.

Additional Licenses & Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA) – Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
  • BLS (AHA) – Basic Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
  • Instructor – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
  • Instructor – Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH).
