Job Summary

Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. Under the direction of the Radiology Director and Radiologist, performs imaging procedures at a technical level that does not require constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Operates CT/X‑Ray equipment to make quality images and radiographs of designated body parts, utilizing the lowest possible radiation dose. Responsibilities include knowledge of all CT/Radiology procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assistance to physicians as required.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces high quality radiographs for all patient age groups.
  • Explains procedure to patient.
  • Positions and immobilizes patient for procedure.
  • Selects appropriate technical factors for specific body part.
  • Reviews images for quality and accuracy of positioning.
  • Willingly helps out in Radiology or other departments within Imaging whenever needed.
  • Assists Radiologist with invasive procedures as needed.
  • Sets up room properly for specific procedure.
  • Practices principles of sterile technique.
  • Labels items on trays in accordance with required Joint Commission standards.
  • Selects appropriate procedure trays and instruments needed.
  • Obtains images as requested by Radiologist to facilitate diagnosis of disease processes.
  • Maintains patient and personal safety.
  • Provides radiation protection to patients as needed.
  • Practices personal radiation safety measures to minimize annual occupational exposure levels.
  • Follows principles of good body mechanics when lifting.
  • Utilizes appropriate transfer techniques for patient condition.
  • Uses two (2) identifiers approved by the hospital to verify patient identity.
  • Utilizes lowest dose possible in all exams.
  • Administers appropriate contrast media as directed by Radiologist.
  • Assesses patient for possible contrast media sensitivity prior to venipuncture.
  • Performs venipuncture as required for procedures.
  • Properly uses power injector.
  • Completes all exams timely in PACS and EMR.
  • Properly performs procedure for making patient CDs, and verifies all information on all CDs before distribution.
  • Verifies that written physician order matches order in PACS.
  • Verifies all images are in PACS, scans any required documentation, and adds any additional information in notes section as needed.

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited diagnostic imaging program. ARRT in Radiology (CT preferred).

License, Certification and/or Registration

ARRT(R) required, ARRT(CT) preferred. BLS must be obtained during orientation period.

Experience

Minimum of one-year clinical experience in a direct patient care setting preferred. Requires proficiency at a technical level that does not require constant direct supervision in CT.

Additional Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, prioritize and change tasks frequently and quickly. Able to work in a team environment. Able to use a computer terminal, fax machine, and copy machine.
