Job Summary

Under general supervision of the radiologist, the technician performs CT procedures to acquire digital images for diagnosis and treatment of disease. The role plans and executes all CT procedures and post‑processing using advanced technology based on clinical criteria, anatomy, and established protocols. The technician ensures protocols are based on guidelines and that the CT scanner’s dose‑management program notifies the user when a scan exceeds preset limits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to operate CT scanners, power injectors, and computer systems to acquire images for use by the radiologist.
  • Maintain knowledge of and operate different CT systems at multiple locations.
  • Maintain Image Gently protocols, compile dose data, and notify the user when preset dose limits are exceeded.
  • Maintain knowledge of all major organ and vascular systems for thoracic, abdominal, pelvic, neuro, and musculoskeletal imaging.
  • Obtain CT images following established protocols, ensuring patients are properly prepared, positioned, immobilized, and shielded when applicable.
  • Perform CT interventional procedures.
  • Perform CTA imaging (carotid, head, vertebral, run‑offs, PE with critical bolus timing) and advanced CTA studies such as TAVR, EVAR, and cardiac imaging.
  • Maintain knowledge of pharmacology to verify lab results before scheduled examinations.
  • Use knowledge of physiology to achieve quality scans when ideal conditions cannot be met.
  • Apply physics principles to lower patient dose on the CT scanner.
  • Interpret technical factors to enhance scan quality or speed.
  • Work in a clinical environment and comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate from a specialty training program (required).
  • Experience: Certified Radiology Technologist within 12 months of ARRT certification.
  • Certification(s) and License(s): Basic Life Support certification (default issuing body).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CT technology, protocols, and dose‑management systems.
