Position Title: CT Technologist

Position Purpose: Under the direction of the radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Radiologist and the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), administers ionizing radiation for diagnosis, which includes positioning the x-ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
- Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
- After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
- Selects appropriate shielding devices and immobilization devices.
- Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media.
- Assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
- Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
- Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
- Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
- Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
Quality of Care
- The technologist provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
- The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
- The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
- Complies with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) Program
Certification: BLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. CT certification through ARRT or required or within 9 months of hire.
Licensure: Current CT registration and licensure by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS). Current registration and licensure by the ARRT.
Preferences
Education: Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Special Position Requirements
Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.
Work Requirements

- Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
- Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
- Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
- Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
- Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
