CT Technologist (Manhattan) Bellevue Hospital

NYU Grossman School of Medicine, part of NYU Langone Health, is seeking a CT Technologist to work at Bellevue Hospital.

Position Summary

As a CT Technologist, you will perform medically prescribed radiographic and CT procedures. You will utilize computerized tomography scanners to produce cross‑sectional images of patients’ internal organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Responsibilities include interpreting physician scanning instructions, administering contrast materials, preparing and operating CT equipment, positioning patients, and ensuring accurate image capture.

Job Responsibilities

• Demonstrate knowledge of hospital and radiology information systems and access patient information from HIS/RIS systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Verify patient appointment times, exam types, and reports; understand the full RIS patient tracking cycle.
• Document begin, complete, and departure times in the RIS according to departmental policy.
• Maintain working knowledge of film library functions and film data verification.
• Schedule and modify exams in RIS from the order entry queue as necessary.
• Prepare and administer IV contrast media, ensure completion of contrast questionnaires, and manage injection sites and tubing.
• Load and program contrast media power injectors, assigning appropriate injection rates based on protocol and access.
• Ensure emergency equipment is available and monitor patients for contrast reactions or extravasation; notify radiologist or LIP if needed.
• Set up, operate, and maintain CT/IR equipment, perform visual and manual quality control checks, and correct software errors.
• Conduct test procedures such as phantom imaging and air calibrations to assess equipment performance.
• Use imaging and peripheral equipment safely in accordance with hospital, departmental, and manufacturer procedures.
• Report equipment malfunctions and notify appropriate personnel.
• Film images of optimum quality and archive data.
• Complete examinations efficiently, providing accurate transmissions/segmentation to PACS.
• Generate hard copies of images when necessary.
• Maintain cleanliness of the radiographic area and prepare supplies in advance.
• Adjust work schedule for STAT and emergency cases; recognize medical emergencies and notify staff immediately.
• Apply proper radiation safety procedures, including gonadal shielding and beam restriction to minimize exposure.
• Maintain and return radiation detection badges and rings.
• Provide technical orientation to cross‑trained technologists and offer instruction for complex procedures.
• Explain procedures and equipment clearly to patients, ensuring comfort and privacy throughout.
• Position patients and equipment appropriately, adjust settings, and capture necessary slices.
• Determine adequacy of slices and recognize pathology or abnormalities in images.
• Measure and document abnormalities per protocol.
• Address problems during examinations using technical knowledge and innovation.
• Consult with other technologists regarding previous techniques and adapt protocols as needed.
• Coordinate with physicians, apply appropriate protocols, and use reference materials to ensure procedural compliance.
• Identify the correct patient through wristband checks or verbal confirmation and match identity to requisition.
• Review requisitions, understand exam types, and clarify with medical staff when necessary.
• Seek supervisory assistance for difficult or questionable results.
• Follow accepted radiologic procedures and use medical information to determine exam protocols.
• Consult policy and procedure manuals to ensure actions align with established protocols.
• Adhere to special instructions on requisitions and observe isolation precautions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
• New York State license.
• Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) and IV Contrast Certification within 3 months of employment.
• Advance Certification in Computerized Tomography.

Salary Range

The salary range for this role is $105,733.59 – $118,115.59 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital needs. The range does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other compensation.
