Job Summary

The CT Technologist I-IV utilizes Computed Tomography (CT) scanners to capture specific images ordered by a physician to aid in patient diagnosis.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

  • Performs procedures as ordered and obtains images according to written protocols.
  • Positions patients appropriately using immobilization and protective equipment as directed by the provider.
  • Organizes and accurately performs the individual steps in established procedures in the proper sequence; reviews, manipulates, and evaluates images to deliver high‑quality diagnostic images, including required post‑processing at remote workstations.
  • Starts up and calibrates the Computed Tomography system daily.
  • Reviews orders with the Radiologist to determine the proper protocol for each procedure.
  • Administers IV contrast with proper dosage and documents according to department policy.
  • Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacturer guidelines or department protocols, recognizes and takes appropriate action for abnormal results, and reports equipment problems and failures to Bio‑Medical or Manager.
  • Ensures a safe and clean environment with all necessary supplies to perform studies and procedures in the exam room.
  • Applies and follows radiation safety principles (i.e., ALARA) to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Works with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions while maintaining tact, maturity, and a positive attitude.
  • Understands and uses Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other related software.
  • Engages in equitable distribution of departmental workloads.
  • Works in variable environments and locations.
  • Performs routine assignments using existing procedures and has conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within the discipline, typically acquired through technical training.
  • Develops competence by performing structured work assignments and receiving instruction, guidance, and direction from others.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a JCERT approved School of Radiologic Sciences Program.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Computer Tomography (CT) or eligible to take the registry and must become registered within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by the first day of employment.
  • 4821 CT Technologist I: 0‑1.99 years of relevant work experience.
  • 4822 CT Technologist II: 2‑4.99 years of relevant work experience.
  • 4823 CT Technologist III: 5‑9.99 years of relevant work experience.
  • 4824 CT Technologist IV: 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology (R) or by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Sciences.
