This position involves assessing patients and safely performing routine computed tomography (CT) procedures in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures and protocols. The individual also serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students and will provide weekend PRN coverage as required.
Responsibilities
- Verify physician orders and procedures for accuracy.
- Use radiology information systems to facilitate care.
- Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
- Operate CT equipment independently, including IV placement, to complete imaging according to protocol.
- Review patient images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality.
- Perform timely quality‑control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and address any deficiencies.
- Assist with departmental operations such as inventory, staff scheduling, and equipment maintenance.
- Adapt communication and behavior to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in computers, software, and web‑based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of CT procedures and technical terminology.
- Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
- Self‑directed work style with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to handle varying work duties and hours, including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and travel between facilities.
- General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and the hemodynamics of blood flow related to various disease states.
- Ability to preliminarily identify stenosis or occlusion based on nationally published criteria.
- Ability to assist attending physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance.
Education & Certifications
- Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or CT ARRT (CT) certified or eligible with registration within 90 days of employment and temporary state license.
- CT registry eligibility within one year of employment.
- Advanced CT certification within one year of becoming CT registry eligible.
- Current unrestricted state license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Preferred: Advanced CT certification through an acceptable ARRT mechanism.
Physical & Environmental Demands
Work requires moderate physical effort, including occasional lifting of 20‑50 pounds, frequent lifting of 10‑25 pounds, and constant handling of lighter objects. Duties may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissues, communicable diseases, hazardous medications, and hazardous waste. The position is located in a patient care area with direct patient contact.
