n n Major Responsibilitiesn n n n

  • n n n Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performingn n n examn n n .n n n Contactsn n n ordering provider when there are discrepancies.n n n n n

  • n n n Properlyn n n identifyn n n n n n n (Using two patient identifiers)n n n n n andn n n assistn n n patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents onn n n appropriate worksheetsn n n .n n n n n

  • n n n n n Interviewsn n n patients for a complete medical history. Reviews in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinical history. Records medical history on requisitions. Correlates other test results and laboratory data withn n n examn n n being performed.n n n n n

  • n n n Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning of exam until completion of dictated results.n n n n n

  • n n n Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. On request, records contrast type and amount.n n n n n

  • n n n Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes anyn n n additionaln n n , reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed.n n n n n

  • n n n Performs basic patient care functions.n n n Informsn n n n n appropriate nursingn n n personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition. Initiates life support measures for patients when necessary.n n n Assistsn n n in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies.n n n n n

  • n n n Performs CT scanning andn n n assistsn n n Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures.n n n Practicesn n n proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary supplies. Performs all invasive proceduresn n n in accordance withn n n bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies and procedures.n n n n n

  • n n n n n Is authorized ton n n obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner.n n n n n

  • n n n n n Practicesn n n principlen n n of radiation safety for self, employees,n n n patientsn n n and family members. Followsn n n appropriate radiationn n n safety standards.n n n n n

  • n n n Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer precautions. Maintainsn n n knowledgen n n and skillsn n n requiredn n n to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectiousn n n diseasen n n .n n n n n

  • n n n Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures. Attends all in-service classes and completes all required safety modules.n n n n n

  • n n n Performs work inn n n an accuraten n n andn n n timelyn n n manner in periods of crisis and emergency situations where time is critical. Rotates shifts as required including call back, holidays, and weekends. Adheres to the Atrium Health attendance policy by being punctual and taking measures to prevent absences.n n n n n

  • n n n Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies. Documents contrast administration inn n n the MARn n n .n n n n n

  • n n n Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Keeps area completely stocked. Cleans all work areas to promote cleanliness in the workplace.n n n n n

  • n n n n n Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan.n n n n n n n

n n Minimum Job Requirementsn n

n n Educationn n

n n n Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology.n n n

n n Certification / Licensen n

n n n ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and advanced registry from the ARRT in CT within one year of hire required. BLS required.n n n

n n Physicaln n n Requirementsn n n and Workingn n n Conditionsn n

n n n Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients,n n n equipmentn n n and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation.n n n Frequentlyn n n may ben n n requiredn n n to stretch,n n n bendn n n twist,n n n squatn n n or kneel in the daily operation of the CT department. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the day such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairsn n n , beingn n n near moving equipment. Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation.n n n n n
