POSITION SUMMARY

Promotes quality patient care through the performance of diagnostic and invasive CT scan procedures, utilizes appropriate technique, established protocols, physician direction, and age-specific guidelines. Maintains thorough knowledge of contrast agents, CT scanners, injector systems, supplies, radiation safety, and quality assurance guidelines and applies such knowledge in day-to-day performance of duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for procedure by noting appropriate medical history, screening patients for contrast reactions, noting the correct physician order, and maintaining adherence to department safety standards.
  • Performs daily calibrations of CT scanners, cleans scanning area before and after each patient and at shift breaks, adheres to infection control practices pre and post patient care, stocks supplies and routinely inspects stock to ensure no expired items in the department.
  • Provides Radiologist/Physician with assistance during complex, invasive, and therapeutic procedures, including room and supply preparation.
  • Able to adjust to high-volume situations and critical needs without sacrificing accuracy/quality.
  • Follows policy and procedures when performing CT scans.
  • Completes order entry and exam data entry in a timely manner that allows images to be viewed and reported on by radiologists.
  • Consistently follows patient care and facility guidelines and procedures in performance.
  • Collaborates with interprofessional colleagues to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize, and execute the patient's plan of care consistently with patient assessment data, physicians' treatment plans, and professional standards of care.
  • Implements measures to prevent exposure to infectious pathogens and communicable conditions. Identifies risks and hazards to patients through various risk assessments, with actions taken to mitigate patient harm.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate from an approved/accredited School of Radiologic Technology required.
  • ARRT (R) (CT) required. Licensed: Texas Medical Board Medical Radiologic Technologist Technical, clerical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Preferred: Bi- or Multilingual.
