Overview
The CT Technologist I (CT Tech) reports directly to the Radiology Team Lead. The CT Tech accurately interprets physician orders; administers contrast materials; and prepares and operates CT Scanner equipment to ensure proper images are obtained. Primary duties include acquiring quality diagnostic CT images in accordance with written orders and standard operating procedures while ensuring safety in patient care through ALARA principles and accepted standards of care. Image acquisition includes identifying the patient, escorting to the scan room, assisting onto the scanner table, positioning for image acquisition, acquiring diagnostically acceptable images, and assisting patients in exiting the scan room. The CT Tech provides an environment of caring, concern and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and co-workers, and ensures the quality of image acquisition through complete and accurate documentation of treatment records. They recognize deviations from prescribed scans and report them to the Radiology Team Lead and/or interpreting Radiologist. They communicate CT procedures and associated risks to patients and families and observe for reactions to contrast injections, reporting to appropriate staff. All aspects of the image acquisition process are documented in the patient’s EMR. The CT Tech may assist in related image acquisition procedures, including transporting patients, reviewing charts, and ordering supplies. They demonstrate the ability to recognize imaging artifacts and adjust to maintain high-quality scans. The CT Tech performs and documents daily and weekly QA checks for CT equipment, notifies the clinical team of findings outside normal ranges, participates in quality-improvement programs, and aids in submitting Superbill charges.
