Job Description

The CT Tech 2 arranges patients for Computed Tomography examinations, produces CT images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems, prevents patient exposure to unnecessary radiation, ensures patient safety by using pre-established imaging protocols and screens patients for safe administration of contrast media. Utilizes departmental policy for safe operation of equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre- and post‑education to patients and family. Able to evaluate competency level of others. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.

Responsibilities

• Clinical skills
• Exhibits working knowledge of all CT equipment and procedures.
• Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
• Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
• Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
• Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
• Coordinates CT schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
• Patient/General Safety
• Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
• Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
• Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
• Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
• Adheres to infection control practices.
• Radiation safety
• Ask females of childbearing age if they may be pregnant.
• Uses proper radiation shielding for pediatric patients and patients in childbearing age.
• Routinely wears film badge to monitor radiation exposure.
• Complete Annual Mandatory Radiation Safety.
• Wears proper radiation protection equipment while doing procedures.
• Equipment Maintenance
• Routinely performs proper tube warm‑up for all x‑ray equipment.
• Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center.
• Documentation/Communication
• Complete Exam Data Entry fields on all exams.
• Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials,
• Other duties as assigned.
• Is available to work a rotating on‑call schedule to ensure 24‑hour coverage of the CT Department.
• Assist in other areas of the department as workload permits.
• Keeps areas well stocked at all times.

Qualifications

• 2 Years experience.
• Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program.
• Current State License, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R) or Registry Eligible, Computed Tomography, CT, Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP.
