Surgical Assistant/First AssistJob Title: Surgical Assistant/First AssistProfession: Surgical Assistant/First Assist Specialty: OR Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Monday-Friday Hours per Shift: 8.0 Experience: Three (3) years previous experience as a Surgical Assistant (SA). At least one (1) year of travel experience. License: Graduate of an accredited program in PA/SA or International Medical Graduate. Certifications: CPR certification required.Description: The Surgical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the surgeon. The Surgical Assistant must be knowledgeable in surgical anatomy and physiology. They should be proficient in operative techniques related to surgical procedures.

Understanding of asepsis and infection control principles is essential. The Surgical Assistant maintains clinical competence in pre-op assessment. They are responsible for patient preparation and assistance during surgical procedures. Required experience includes orthopedics, neuro/orthopedic spine, general/robotics, urology/gyn, and vascular surgery. Candidates should be prepared to complete required learning modules after acceptance. Active participation in room turnover is expected.

Demonstrating proper positioning, draping, and prepping procedures is necessary. Contributing to reducing surgical supply expenses by minimizing waste is important. Following standards and recommended practices for infection prevention is required.
