Job Overview

The Department of Criminology in the College of Social Sciences at California State University, Fresno is seeking a tenure‑track assistant professor. The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting scholarly and applied research, and participating in service activities across the university.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in criminology, with emphasis on Law Enforcement and/or Victimology options.
  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate curricula.
  • Conduct research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, and present findings at conferences.
  • Advising and mentoring students, including supervising research projects.
  • Participate in program development, grant writing, and committee service at all levels of university governance.
  • Engage in service‑related activities as determined by departmental needs.

Qualifications

Required Education: Doctorate (Ph.D.) in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related social science discipline from an accredited institution, or applicants ABD (anticipated completion by August 1, 2027 ). Candidates with only a J.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D. are not eligible.

  • Proven excellence in university‑level teaching (graduate teaching assistant experience acceptable).
  • Record of scholarly presentations, peer‑reviewed publications, and research experience in law enforcement and/or victimology.
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct research at local, state, national, and international levels.
  • Evidence of ability to include and supervise student research.

For on‑campus interview candidates: provide three current letters of recommendation (dated within 12 months of full consideration) and a research presentation. Instruction on additional required items will be sent by the Search Chair.
