Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Criminal Defense Attorney for a full-time remote position based in East Lansing, MI. The attorney will manage a caseload of criminal matters, conduct client consultations, and provide ongoing legal advice and guidance throughout each stage of the case.

Duties

• Manage a caseload of criminal matters.
• Conduct client consultations and provide legal advice.
• Review evidence and perform legal research.
• Draft motions and briefs.
• Negotiate with prosecutors.
• Prepare for hearings and trials.
• Appear at virtual and in-person court proceedings as necessary.
• Maintain detailed case files and records.
• Collaborate on case strategy and ensure compliance with standards.

Requirements

• Strong foundation in law and criminal law.
• Experience in criminal defense law, including pre-trial, trial, and post-conviction matters.
• Advanced legal research skills.
• Active license to practice law in relevant jurisdiction(s).
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases remotely.
• High ethical standards and sound judgment.
• Experience with remote work technologies.
• 5+ years of experience in criminal defense practice preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

• Active state bar membership in good standing.

Skills

• Legal research and issue spotting.
