Crane Operator
The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient transfer of materials within a warehouse environment, operating overhead cranes and related lifting devices to move, load, and unload materials. This role requires strong awareness of equipment capabilities and limitations, regular inspection of work areas and machinery, and a consistent focus on safety and quality. In addition to crane operation, the position includes operating banding equipment, packaging materials, and driving a tow-motor/forklift as part of daily production activities.
Responsibilities
- Operate overhead cranes to safely transfer materials throughout the warehouse, ensuring proper handling and placement.
- Use lifting devices and attachments in accordance with their capabilities and limitations to prevent damage to materials and equipment.
- Inspect the work area, machines, and equipment daily to verify safe working conditions and report any issues promptly.
- Operate banding equipment to secure materials and prepare loads for storage or shipment.
- Package materials according to established procedures and quality standards.
- Drive and operate a tow-motor/forklift to move materials, pallets, and finished goods within the facility.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, maintaining a safety- and quality-conscious approach to all tasks.
- Monitor equipment performance and communicate any mechanical concerns or maintenance needs.
- Use basic math skills to perform measurements, counts, and calculations related to material handling and packaging.
- Work in a production-oriented environment, meeting productivity and quality targets while maintaining safe operations.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience in a related field involving crane or material handling operations.
- Previous forklift operation experience.
- Ability to operate overhead cranes safely and efficiently.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand equipment functions and basic mechanical issues.
- Strong safety and quality consciousness in all work activities.
- Basic math skills for measurements, counts, and simple calculations.
- General knowledge of crane operation and ancillary lifting devices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of regular job duties.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Production-oriented mindset with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Working knowledge of general computer programs for basic data entry or equipment-related tasks.
- Experience operating banding equipment and packaging materials.
- Experience driving and maneuvering tow-motors and forklifts in confined warehouse spaces.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milford, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
