Primary Purpose/Role

The primary responsibility of a school counselor is to counsel and advocate for all students to fully develop their personal, social, academic, and career abilities. A school counselor works alongside school faculty/staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at the assigned school.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Master's degree in Counseling
  • Valid Texas school counseling certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Minimum three years of creditable years of teaching experience
  • Knowledge of school counseling procedures, social/emotional learning, student academic and career development. Child behavior management and emotional regulation techniques.

Other Skills And Abilities Required

  • Maintain positive and professional communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal)
  • Maintain professional and emotional composure
  • Promote a positive, caring environment
  • Work with and respond consistently and equitably to all personnel, students, and parents/guardians
  • Communicate and support expectations that are consistent with district counseling program objectives
  • Interpret policies and procedures

Salary: AP PG 5 / 198 days

Starting: $70,340
