TITLE: Counselor Assistant
SALARY: Classified Salary Schedule, Level 6
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Moderate proficiency in typing, with good accuracy
  • Knowledge and experience with office procedures; ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc); experience with Power School preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, site and/or district personnel and general public
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written); maintain confidentiality; evaluate situations, exercise good judgment and possess a high tolerance for crisis situations
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, take initiative, direct own workload and meet deadlines while working with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision
  • Knowledge of school district policies and procedures preferred
EDUCATION:
  • High School education required; minimum two years college preferred
REPORTS TO: Principal and Head Counselor
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide ongoing orientation for new students; provide student scheduling services; process class changes; provide registration support
  • Monitor individual students' progress toward meeting graduation requirements to assist counselor in providing student guidance with academic planning; provide assistance in proficiency placement
  • Assist in Education Career Action Plan (ECAP) preparation; provide follow-up with absent students regarding individual ECAP
  • Establish and maintain files to secure appropriate student data for counselor reference; assist in monitoring at-risk students
  • Respond to inquiries from students, parents, district personnel and general public to convey information, school and/or district policies and procedures, etc; evaluate inquiries and/or situations to take appropriate action or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution
  • Prepare written materials (i.e. welcome information packets, correspondence, letters, notices, etc) to convey information to appropriate parties
  • Establish and maintain recordkeeping to ensure accurate retrieval of student information to compile statistical data for surveys, administrative reports, etc.
  • Organize and prepare testing materials
  • Perform various clerical and other assigned tasks for assigned personnel in support of the completion of their duties
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Assist other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities

EVALUATION: Annually by Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months
