Cosmetology Master Instructor SubstituteSubstitute Instructors provide temporary instructional coverage due to instructor absences, vacancies, leaves of absence, scheduling needs, or other circumstances requiring instructional support.While assigned, the Substitute Instructor is responsible for performing the applicable duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description and for maintaining continuity of instruction in accordance with the established curriculum, course syllabus, lesson plans, institutional policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.Substitute Instructors are expected to:Deliver instruction in accordance with the approved curriculum, course objectives, and established instructional schedule.Maintain an appropriate, professional, and effective learning environment.Accurately document student attendance, academic progress, grades, and other required records, as applicable to the assignment.Follow established lesson plans, instructional materials, policies, and procedures to ensure continuity of instruction.Communicate relevant student, classroom, or instructional concerns to the appropriate academic leadership.Maintain confidentiality and comply with all institutional policies and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.Perform other instructional duties reasonably associated with the assigned course or program.Substitute assignments are temporary and based on institutional need. Substitute Instructors may work on an intermittent or as-needed basis and are not guaranteed a minimum number of hours, a regular schedule, or a specific duration of employment or assignment.Standard ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Student DevelopmentDeliver high-quality instruction aligned with curriculum and accreditation standardsPrepare students for state board licensure and industry successProvide constructive, timely, and encouraging feedback on student performance and assignmentsOffer individualized and small-group support to strengthen skills and learning outcomesProvide tutoring and instructional assistance as neededGuide students through client consultations, service recommendations, and professional techniquesProvide real-time coaching in a hands-on clinic environment, adapting to student skill levelsStudent Engagement & RetentionFoster a positive, encouraging learning environment that promotes confidence in the cosmetology professionMonitor attendance, academic progress, and completion of learning activitiesProactively communicate with and support students to promote retention and successSend welcome communications to students prior to course startClinic Operations & Customer ExperienceSupervise clinic floor operations to ensure service quality, technical accuracy, and professionalismModel and reinforce exceptional customer service, communication, and client retention practicesAddress and resolve client concerns in a timely and professional mannerCollaborate with Customer Relations to coordinate clinic schedules and optimize guest experienceCompliance &Professional StandardsMaintain compliance with OSHA standards and all applicable safety requirementsAdhere to policies of the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and accrediting bodiesModel CHE’s CARES values: Collaborative, Adaptable, Resilient, Empowered, Student-FocusedStay current on industry trends, techniques, and best practicesAdministrative & Operational ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, and transcripts in CanvasMonitor and manage classroom and clinic inventory; order supplies as neededEnsure classrooms, labs, and workstations are clean, organized, and fully stockedIdentify and escalate issues related to curriculum, technology, or operationsMaintains a high performance environmentEstablish and support clear performance expectations aligned with student success, retention, and program outcomesCollaborate and communicate effectively with faculty and staff to achieve program goalsContinuously improve instructional quality through feedback, training and professional developmentContribute to a positive, accountable, and results-oriented team environmentEffort and CommitmentDemonstrate reliability, professionalism, and accountability in all job responsibilitiesMaintain consistent attendance and adherence to work schedules and institutional policiesAdapt to change and support new processes, technologies, and program needsAccept feedback constructively and follow through on expectations and assigned responsibilitiesTake initiative to support students, colleagues, and departmental needsUpon request and approval of the Campus DirectorAttend graduation ceremonies and required institutional eventsParticipate in school-sponsored activities and student engagement initiativesComplete required professional development and in-service trainingPerform other duties as assigned to support program and institutional needsMinimum Requirements: Current Oklahoma Master Instructor License with a minimum of three recent years’ verifiable experience working as a cosmetologist required.Substitute Instructors must meet the same applicable education, credential, licensure, certification, occupational experience, and/or faculty qualification requirements established for the instructional area in which they are assigned.Instructors should have a natural talent for teaching and good interpersonal skills. A good instructor should be patient and understanding, take a hands on approach to ensure every student gets the required knowledge to succeed in the beauty industry. Must be accessible to students and faculty.
