Overview
As the Corporate Tax Director, you’ll be a member of our Corporate Tax Solutions Family and work on business income tax planning, corporate compliance, and ASC 740 income tax accounting projects. You will help with engagement management for multiple clients, with the resources, environment, and support to excel. Success in the Director role is the primary pathway to Partner or Managing Director. You’ll collaborate with team members and specialists in our tax practice, including the Washington National Tax Office (WNTO), to support all areas of the client’s tax functions.
Responsibilities
- Supervising the efforts of multiple client services teams on client engagements; planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects across various industries; providing innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise; marketing, selling, designing, and implementing tax-planning strategies while managing to budget.
- Support the growth and profitability of the firm by leveraging your external network and achieving sales and revenue targets, including identifying opportunities to sell services to existing and potential clients.
- Participate in business development activities and other professional industry or community events to enhance your own and the firm’s brand.
- Effectively managing engagement fundamentals (realization, utilization, leverage, accounts receivable, expenses).
- Managing, developing, training, mentoring staff on tax projects, and assessing performance for engagement and year-end reviews.
- Conducting primary and secondary reviews of complex tax returns prepared by staff and making recommendations on return preparation for accuracy and tax savings opportunities.
- Conducting primary and secondary reviews of ASC 740 income tax provision engagements.
- Researching and consulting on various tax matters.
- Maintaining a good working relationship with clients as the primary service team contact and collaborating with client management and staff at all levels to gather information and perform tax services.
- Gaining an understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives to apply on engagements.
- Attending professional development and training sessions regularly.
- Adhering to the highest degree of professional standards and client confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s degree in taxation, LLM in Taxation, or JD preferred.
- Minimum five to seven years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience.
- CPA or JD/active law license required.
- Experience in public accounting is preferred.
- Experience in corporate income tax and strong ASC 740 accounting for Income Taxes skills.
- Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in US GAAP and corporate income tax laws and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of state and local income taxes, international taxation, and transfer pricing.
- Exceptional client service, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Experience in OneSource Tax Provision preferred.
- Strong teamwork and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
The base salary range for this position is between $197,800 and $255,904. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion, based on factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity.
