Company: Federal Rent-A-Fence (temporary fencing for construction & events)
ABOUT FEDERAL RENT A FENCE
Federal Rent-A-Fence is a fast-growing temporary fencing company serving construction sites and major events across multiple markets. We are a PE-backed business with ambitious growth objectives, and we are building the next chapter the right way: by pairing operational execution with clear standards, strong accountability, and practical use of data. This role joins a senior leadership team that moves quickly, values clarity, and implements good ideas.
OUR VISION is to redefine the temporary fence industry by investing in our greatest asset - our labor force. We are building a culture where team members are valued partners, supported through training, mentorship, and opportunities to grow, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and integrity.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Federal Rent-A-Fence is seeking a field-oriented EHS and risk leader to programmatically reduce exposure across 17 branches and a growing operating footprint. This role owns the systems that prevent employee injuries, vehicle accidents, DOT violations, and environmental events. The successful candidate will turn risk data into clear priorities, practical controls, visible field leadership, and consistent manager accountability.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN (OUTCOMES > ACTIVITY)
- Reduce recordable injuries - lower injury frequency and severity through targeted prevention, investigation, and verified corrective action
- Reduce vehicle accident exposure - improve safe-driving behavior, preventable accident frequency, and follow-up quality
- Improve DOT performance - reduce roadside inspections with violations, violations per inspection, and repeat defect patterns
- Strengthen fleet inspection discipline - raise valid pre-trip and post-trip completion and ensure defects are resolved
- Build a credible BBS program - drive manager participation, observation quality, coaching, and action on recurring behaviors
- Create clean case visibility - maintain current status, classification, ownership, due dates, closure, and effectiveness checks for every material event
- Increase field ownership - make safety expectations visible, practical, and consistently executed by Regional and Service Operations Managers
- Maintain environmental readiness - manage spill, waste, storage, documentation, and other material environmental obligations proportionately
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Safety & Risk Management
- Maintain an enterprise EHS risk register and prioritize the highest-frequency and highest-severity exposures.
- Own practical policies, standards, calendars, audits, training, communications, and branch operating rhythms.
- Use leading and lagging indicators to focus resources and verify whether controls are reducing risk.
Injury Prevention, Investigation & Case Management
- Collaborate with the Service Operations team and Field Management to manage injury, accident, DOT, and environmental cases effectively, coordinate follow-up, and minimize company exposure.
- Maintain complete, current case information for injuries, first aid, near misses, work status, medical status, investigations, corrective actions, owners, and due dates.
- Lead or quality-check investigations and distinguish immediate, contributing, and root causes.
- Champion each corrective-action plan, delegate actions when reasonable, and directly own and execute actions when that is the most effective path.
- Escalate overdue items and verify that completed actions changed behavior or conditions and reduced recurrence risk.
- Coordinate with HR, operations, medical providers, brokers, insurers, and other partners as appropriate.
- Use Samsara, vehicle inspection, maintenance, accident, and roadside inspection data to identify and reduce fleet risk.
- Partner with operations and fleet resources to improve driving behavior, vehicle readiness, defect closure, and DOT compliance.
- Ensure every material accident or DOT event receives timely review, ownership, corrective action, and closure.
Field Assurance & Behavioral Based Safety
- Maintain a visible branch and jobsite presence focused on loading, unloading, material handling, vehicle movement, securement, and end-of-day work.
- Use the BBS program to harvest leading indicators of injury risk, not simply to count completed observations.
- Own BBS training, observation quality, completion, trend analysis, coaching, and follow-up.
- Translate identified risk patterns into prioritized mitigation activities, accountable owners, due dates, and effectiveness checks.
- Coach employees and managers in the moment and convert recurring observations into systemic improvement.
Environmental & Compliance Readiness
- Maintain a proportionate environmental program covering spill prevention and response, waste handling, storage, and required documentation.
- Keep required plans, records, training, and corrective actions current and audit-ready.
- Escalate material regulatory, environmental, customer, or insurance risk promptly.
Manager Accountability & Executive Reporting
- Establish clear expectations for Regional Managers and Service Operations Managers and publish transparent branch scorecards.
- Follow up on non-compliance, name owners and due dates, and elevate repeated misses.
- Provide concise executive reporting that distinguishes activity from outcomes and identifies the company's most important exposures.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health, risk management, industrial hygiene, engineering, operations, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Five or more years of progressively responsible EHS or safety experience in a multi-site, construction, field service, transportation, rental, logistics, or comparable operating environment.
- Demonstrated ownership of injury reduction, incident investigation, corrective-action systems, audits, training, and manager accountability.
- Working knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping, DOT/FMCSA concepts, fleet safety, workers' compensation coordination, and practical environmental compliance.
- Ability to influence operational leaders without direct authority and communicate through clear scorecards, reports, and field coaching.
- Ability to travel regularly and adjust schedule when operational risk requires field presence.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred
- CSP, ASP, CHST, ARM, or comparable safety/risk credential.
- Experience with Samsara or comparable fleet telematics and digital vehicle inspection systems.
- Experience implementing Behavioral Based Safety or another observation-and-coaching system.
- Experience with return-to-work, insurer/broker collaboration, and contractor or customer prequalification.
Reporting: This role reports to the VP of Operations and works in close partnership with Regional Managers, Service Operations Managers, HR, and other operational leaders. The role has no direct reports.
