Corporate Legal Team PositionApplied Materials has an exciting opportunity to join our world-class Corporate Legal team. This team is responsible for general corporate and securities matters, including corporate governance, securities compliance, public disclosures and investor communications, subsidiary governance, ESG, real estate and EHS, and global equity compensation and benefits programs.In this role, you will work closely with business and cross-functional teams to understand the applicability of existing and new environmental, health and safety (EHS) laws and regulations to the company's global operations. You will also work closely with leadership to advise and develop comprehensive EHS compliance strategies.This position uniquely combines legal advisory and compliance functions and requires identifying and solving complex problems that impact the direction of a global business.

Candidates must have compliance experience and demonstrate sound legal judgment, aptitude for novel issues and complex technologies, and an ability to quickly learn and grow within an increasingly dynamic business environment.This position may be based out of Applied Materials' Santa Clara, California, Headquarters or Austin, Texas site. Occasional travel may be necessary to support pending matters and strategic initiatives.Major areas of responsibility include:Advising on and supporting the company's compliance with EHS laws and regulations based on subject matter expertise in the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Recovery, Compensation, and Liability Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, OSHA standards, locally equivalent regulations thereof, REACH, CE Marking directives and other EHS laws and regulationsAdvising on EHS legal and policy initiatives, requirements, and compliance obligations, and managing outside counsel resources associated with the foregoingWorking collaboratively in cross-functional teams to manage EHS legal risksAuditing legal aspects of environmental and safety compliance policies and procedures and updating or revising to the extent neededDesigning and delivering tailored training to the company on EHS complianceAdvising the company on responses to product safety incidents, including communications with customers and other stakeholdersCommunicating with U.S. EPA and OSHA, state and local regulatory agencies, and other external regulators, on permit applications, inspections, enforcement actions, and other activitiesAdvising regarding environmental due diligence and negotiating environmental contract terms in commercial or real estate transactionsServing as a member of due diligence teams on acquisitions and post-closing integrations to assess the state of, and ensure compliance with, EHS laws and regulationsCollaborating with the company's in-house litigation team and outside counsel in connection with environmental or safety compliance enforcement actions or litigation, as neededMinimum qualifications include:Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and currently admitted to practice law in at least one United States jurisdiction3+ years of EHS compliance experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-houseExceptional written and oral communication skillsExposure to complex EHS compliance mattersPassion for serving as a business partner and a desire to dive into the detailsPreferred qualifications include:Previous in-house experience (preferably at a technology company with global operations)Prior experience advising company on applicability of EHS laws and regulationsBroad experience with EHS regulatory landscape, in particular California, US, and EU, and/or a desire to learn in order to support new technologies and growth for the company.Applied Materials is committed to diversity in its workforce including Equal Employment Opportunity for Minorities, Women, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities.
