Uncommon Brands is experiencing exciting growth and is searching for our first Corporate Controller to join our expanding team.
We are building a portfolio of distinct brands within the food and beverage space, partnering with limited-service and fast-casual restaurants that have extraordinary food, exceptional service, and unrealized growth potential. We invest in consumer-obsessed concepts and provide the technology, systems infrastructure, and marketing expertise to unlock what they're capable of. Our current portfolio includes Fuego Tortilla Grill and The Rice Box, and we are actively expanding.
The Corporate Controller will serve as the financial backbone of Uncommon Brands, owning the full accounting and reporting function across the portfolio and providing the CEO and leadership team with the clarity and visibility needed to make smart, fast decisions as the business scales.
What You'll Do:- Own all core accounting functions including general ledger, COGS, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and invoicing
- Prepare and post journal entries across various accounts including cash, COGS, prepaids, and revenue
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes including reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and variance analysis
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
- Review and reconcile bank statements and account activity
- Prepare and remit monthly sales and use tax filings across multiple jurisdictions
Reporting & Performance Analysis
- Produce daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports to monitor unit-level and company-level performance
- Provide ongoing analysis of food and beverage COGS, labor, operating expenses, and profitability across all locations
- Prepare comprehensive financial packages for monthly and quarterly business reviews
- Develop and present company financial performance to the CEO and board as required
- Complete ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting requests as needed
Treasury, Budget & Forecasting
- Assist with cash forecasting and analyze monthly bank activity to support treasury functions
- Review capital expenditure requests and conduct economic feasibility analysis on new construction and purchases
- Assist with annual budgets and key financial forecasts across the portfolio
M&A Onboarding & Offboarding
- Support the financial due diligence process for new brand acquisitions and partnerships
- Lead the accounting onboarding of newly acquired concepts into Uncommon Brands' financial systems and reporting structure
- Establish accounting processes, controls, and reporting cadences for new entities from day one
- Support the financial offboarding of divested or wound-down concepts, ensuring clean close-out of all accounts, filings, and obligations
- Partner with the CEO, legal counsel, and external advisors during transaction periods to ensure financial continuity and compliance
Audit & Compliance
- Lead the preparation and execution of the annual external audit
- Maintain relationships with company banks, auditors, insurance carriers, and CPA firms
- Support internal audit processes and continuously improve accounting procedures, reporting workflows, and internal controls
- Organize and maintain vital financial documents, records, and data
Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technology
- Explore and leverage AI-driven tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and speed of accounting and reporting workflows
- Identify opportunities to automate routine processes including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance reporting
- Stay current on emerging financial technology platforms and evaluate their application across the portfolio
- Champion a continuous improvement mindset that embraces non-traditional approaches and uses data to drive better financial decisions
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with Operations, People, and Marketing to gather, validate, and contextualize financial data
- Serve as the subject matter expert on operational accounting and financial systems across the organization
- 5+ years of experience in a Controller or senior-level Finance and Accounting role
- Ability and desire to build and develop a team; this role will hire and mentor a Staff Accountant as the portfolio grows
- Multi-unit restaurant, hospitality, or retail experience strongly preferred; PE-backed environment experience a plus
- CPA or advanced degree preferred; Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; restaurant accounting software experience a plus
- Experience with multi-entity accounting structures, payroll systems, and multi-jurisdiction sales tax compliance
- Exceptional attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy
- Strong communicator, able to translate financial data into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders
- Self-starter who can manage a full accounting function independently
- Curious about how AI and emerging financial technology can improve efficiency, automate routine processes, and surface insights faster, a forward-thinking approach to the Controller function is a plus
- High level of integrity, accountability, and discretion

$150,000 – $165,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Uncommon Brands offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, and bonus eligibility.
