Chicagoland Area | Hybrid We're partnered with a stable and growing privately held distribution and services organization in search of a Controller to serve as the senior-most accounting and finance leader within the business. This position reports directly to executive leadership and offers broad exposure across accounting, financial planning, cash management, and operational decision-making.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance leader who enjoys wearing multiple hats, managing a lean team, and partnering closely with executives to drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections while monitoring business performance against expectations.
- Provide financial analysis and operational insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Manage treasury activities, banking relationships, and working capital initiatives.
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party service providers.
- Evaluate and improve financial processes, controls, reporting tools, and system utilization.
- Lead and mentor a small accounting and administrative team.
- Support risk management, insurance, compliance, and employee benefit administration activities.
What They're Looking For:
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager experience with significant leadership responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
- Experience leading teams and partnering directly with executive leadership.
- Background within distribution, manufacturing, or a similar operating environment is highly preferred.
