Controls Technician 1Location- Mobile, AL / Montgomery, ALClient- 1 YearContract- 1 YearJob SummaryWe are seeking a Controls Technician – Protection & Control (P&C) with 0–3 years of experience to support the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems used in power substations. This role is ideal for early-career technicians looking to build hands-on experience in electrical controls, automation, and substation protection systems.The Controls Technician will apply electrical and computer-based skills to ensure reliable operation of protection and control equipment, including microprocessor relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, motors, pumps, and associated systems.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, test, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying systems and associated devicesPerform calibration and functional testing of protection and control relays and equipmentAssist in developing, updating, and maintaining protection and control documentationSupport assigned project leads with field activities and work assignmentsInstall, program, configure, and maintain P&C relays and control devicesParticipate in process hazard analyses (PHA) and safety reviewsRead and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and drawingsMaintain awareness of current industry standards, tools, and best practicesFollow safety, quality, and operational procedures in field environmentsRequired Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (required)Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field (preferred)0–3 years of experience as a Controls Technician or in a similar technical roleFamiliarity with Microsoft Office applicationsAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawingsWorking knowledge of PLCs and HMIsExperience with AC and DC electrical systemsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsWillingness to work in field environments such as substationsPreferred QualificationsExposure to power substations, protection & control systems, or industrial automationExperience with relay testing, commissioning, or control panel wiringStrong attention to detail and commitment to safetyWork EnvironmentField-based role supporting substations and industrial facilitiesCollaboration with engineers, technicians, and project teamsOpportunities for training, certification, and career growth
