Our mission is simple: to make ourselves indispensable to our clients by delivering technically sound, commercially smart building automation solutions that perform.Position SummaryThe Controls Integration Engineer is responsible for the technical design, programming, and integration of BAS/EMS systems across 5K's project portfolio.
This role translates project scopes, sequences of operations, and client requirements into fully engineered control solutions — from DDC programming and graphics development through system integration and commissioning support. The Controls Integration Engineer works closely with the Solutions Architect, project managers, and field installation teams to ensure that every system 5K delivers is technically sound, properly documented, and fully functional at handover.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program, and configure DDC control systems for BAS/EMS projects, including controller programming, graphics development, network configuration, and system integrationDevelop sequences of operations, control narratives, and point lists in accordance with project specifications, design documents, and 5K's engineering standardsIntegrate BAS/EMS systems with third-party equipment and building subsystems including HVAC equipment, lighting, meters, and IP-based devices via BACnet, Modbus, and other open protocolsConduct factory acceptance testing (FAT) and provide on-site startup and commissioning support for 5K-managed projectsDevelop and maintain project engineering documentation including as-built drawings, submittal packages, O&M manuals, and commissioning recordsCoordinate with the Solutions Architect to ensure project designs are implemented accurately and that any field-level design changes are properly documentedProvide technical support to project managers, field technicians, and commissioning agents throughout project executionSupport the development of 5K's standardized engineering templates, sequence libraries, and platform configuration standardsTroubleshoot integration issues and resolve technical problems during and after project installationParticipate in technical training, manufacturer partner programs, and continuing education relevant to BAS/EMS integrationQualifications & Skills Required3-7 years of hands-on experience programming and integrating building automation systems in commercial environmentsProficiency in at least one major open-protocol BAS platform: Niagara/Tridium, BACnet IP/MSTP, Distech Controls, or equivalentExperience developing DDC programs, graphics, and trend logs for HVAC controls applicationsWorking knowledge of system integration protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and LONAbility to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings and sequences of operationsStrong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve integration and communication issues independentlyBachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, building systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent experiencePreferredHands-on experience with Tridium-Niagara, Distech, or Delta Controls platformsExperience with multi-site or national rollout deployment programsFamiliarity with energy metering, demand response, or EMS analytics platformsNiagara N4 & AX certifications or equivalent manufacturer certificationWhy Join?At 5K Automation and Controls, you're joining a ground-floor opportunity with the backing of an established, financially strong parent organization.
