Controls Installer
The Controls Installer works on-site under the guidance of a site superintendent and in close collaboration with a professional project team. The primary focus of this role is to install low-voltage building automation and HVAC control systems in commercial facilities, with a strong emphasis on military installations. The position requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality to ensure the efficient and reliable installation of complex building automation systems.
Responsibilities
- Install low-voltage building automation and HVAC control systems in commercial facilities, including military installations.
- Travel full-time to multiple states to perform installation work at various military bases and other project locations.
- Install conduit up to 1" EMT and rigid, ensuring proper routing, support, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Install low-voltage cabling and sensors for building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Install low-voltage control panels for building automation and HVAC systems.
- Perform wiring and termination of low-voltage control panels and associated devices, ensuring neat, accurate, and reliable connections.
- Read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints to plan and execute installations accurately.
- Coordinate daily activities with the site superintendent and project team to meet project schedules and quality expectations.
- Follow all safety procedures and site-specific requirements while working on military bases and commercial facilities.
- Support start-up and commissioning activities for building automation and HVAC control systems as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other trades on-site to resolve issues and keep projects on track.
Essential Skills
- 1–3 years of experience in conduit and wire installation within a commercial setting.
- Proven experience installing conduit up to 1" EMT and rigid.
- Demonstrated experience installing low-voltage cabling, sensors, and control panels.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints.
- Willingness and ability to travel full-time to multiple states and work primarily on military bases.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Hands-on experience with building automation systems, HVAC controls, or related low-voltage control systems.
- Understanding of commercial controls systems, facilities management systems, and energy management practices.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Effective interpersonal skills to represent the company in an ethical and professional manner.
- PC proficiency and ability to work with facility automation controls-related software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Journeyman electrician or similar field plus three years of industry experience, or ten-plus years of experience servicing mechanical equipment control systems in the HVAC industry.
- Experience installing commercial building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Experience with Siemens controls, building automation systems (BAS/BMS), and HVAC control systems.
- Exposure to automation systems, building management systems (BMS), and HVAC electrical installations.
- Familiarity with VRF systems, VAV systems, and controls installation for these technologies.
- Experience with start-up and commissioning of HVAC and building automation systems.
- Systems integration and development experience on Niagara / Tridium-based systems is a plus.
- OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
- AutoCAD or similar drafting software experience is a plus.
- Leadership skills to support and guide technicians working on complex and critical building automation equipment on job sites.
- Ability to program and configure facility automation controls-related software.
- General knowledge of site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques for building automation and HVAC controls.

Work Environment
The role is field-based and primarily located on military bases and other commercial facilities, requiring openness to frequent and extended travel across multiple states. Work is performed on active job sites, often in mechanical rooms, equipment spaces, and occupied facilities, where adherence to safety protocols and site-specific rules is essential. You will work with low-voltage building automation and HVAC control systems, including Siemens controls, BMS/BAS platforms, VRF and VAV systems, and related electrical and mechanical equipment. The environment is hands-on and technology-driven, involving tools and equipment for conduit installation, cabling, control panels, and system commissioning. Work hours may vary depending on project needs and site access requirements, and attire must meet safety and security standards appropriate for military and commercial construction sites.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Belvoir, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
