Controls Application EngineerThe Controls Application Engineer supports the AMER DX / CW / EDGE product line by acting as the primary interface between customers, sales engineering, and the global Application team.

The role focuses on ingesting AMER-specific requirements into the software application layer — generating ETO (Engineer-to-Order) configurations, creating Sequences of Operation (SOO) by request, and translating regional needs into Kanban initiatives for execution over global baselines.ResponsibilitiesCustomer & Sales SupportServe as the technical controls interface for AMER Sales Engineering and customers on PA product applicationsRespond to pre-sales technical inquiries regarding controls capabilities, communication protocols, BMS integration, and custom sequencesSupport bid/proposal activities with controls-specific technical content, SOO documentation, and application feasibility assessmentsProvide post-sales application support including commissioning guidance, controls configuration clarification, and field issue triageInterface with AMER Service for escalation resolution and field feedback loopETO Application Generation & SOO CreationGenerate ETO software application variants based on customer-specific requirements (custom sequences, protocol configurations, I/O mapping, setpoint strategies)Create and maintain Sequences of Operation (SOO) documentation per customer/project request, ensuring alignment with the delivered applicationValidate ETO requests against platform capabilities and global baseline constraintsMaintain ETO backlog visibility and delivery timelines in coordination with the Application teamRequirements Ingestion & Kanban ExecutionCapture recurring AMER market/customer requirements and translate them into structured Kanban initiatives for regional execution over the global PA baselineDistinguish between one-off ETO customizations and requirements warranting baseline integrationPrioritize and groom the AMER PA Kanban backlog in collaboration with the Regional Controls Leader and Product LineEnsure traceability from customer/market request ? Kanban card ? implemented feature ? validated releaseParticipate in Kanban cadences (replenishment, delivery planning) to maintain flow and predictabilityCross-Functional CoordinationCollaborate with the global Application team (EMEA) to ensure AMER regional initiatives integrate cleanly into the global PA baselineInterface with Product Management on feature prioritization and roadmap alignmentCoordinate with Quality/Regulatory on documentation requirements for AMER-specific variantsSupport CRA compliance activities where AMER-manufactured PA units are destined for EU marketRequirements:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field3–5 years of experience in HVAC controls application engineering, preferably precision cooling/data center environmentsExperience generating ETO configurations or custom application variants for thermal/HVAC productsProficiency in structured text (IEC 61131-3) and/or C/C++Familiarity with BMS protocols (Modbus, BACnet, SNMP) and system integrationAbility to create clear, customer-facing Sequences of Operation documentationStrong customer-facing communication skills — able to translate technical controls concepts for non-controls audiencesUS work authorization requiredPreferred QualificationsExperience with Kanban/Agile delivery methodologies in an engineering contextKnowledge of precision air conditioning systems and data center thermal managementFamiliarity with Vertiv controller platforms or equivalentExperience supporting sales engineering teams in a technical pre-sales capacityUnderstanding of UL, ASHRAE, and NIST frameworks relevant to data center coolingPrior experience in a global, matrixed engineering organizationKey CompetenciesCustomer Orientation?— Understands customer/sales urgency and delivers actionable technical support with appropriate responsivenessRequirements Translation?— Converts customer requests and market signals into structured, executable Kanban initiativesETO Discipline?— Manages custom application delivery with rigor, balancing speed with baseline integrityGlobal-Local Balance?— Injects AMER needs into the global baseline without fragmentationCommunication?— Bridges the gap between controls engineering depth and customer/sales accessibilityThe successful candidate will embrace Vertiv's Core Principles & Behaviors to help execute our Strategic Priorities.OUR CORE PRINCIPLES: Safety.?
