Our Client based in Downtown St Petersburg, Florida is an exciting start up engineering and technology company that has picked up some very large contracts and is going to need a Controller to lead Accounting and Finance.
The ideal candidate will be Big 4 Alumni with Industry experience after with a company that "builds things" whether it be hardware, aerospace, maritime, heavy machinery, manufacturing, engineering or transportation. This person will have a builder mindset and be responsible for all things Accounting, including period closings, building and scaling the Accounting and Finance function, Cash Forecasting, Cash Flow Management, Budgeting and Forecasting Revenues, AP/AR, Payroll and WIP.
The compensation will be in the $150-180K plus competitive equity range and have a a comprehensive benefits package with solid PTO and work/life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Finance Function Leadership & Strategy: Design and build out the financial roadmap, systems (accounting/ERP), internal policies, controls, and reporting cadences as the company scales.
- Accounting & Month-End Close: Manage relationships with third-party accountants, review and own monthly financial accuracy, and ensure timely, audit-ready books and clean month-end closes.
- Cash Planning & Management: Oversee near-term cash planning by maintaining rolling cash forecasts, monitoring burn rates, and flagging risks or funding needs early.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and scale internal controls appropriate for an early-stage venture, and support banking, insurance, and administrative finance relationships.
- Procurement & Operations Support: Act as an interim contract manager for procurement and accounts payable/receivable (AP/AR) supporting the Client's offshore infrastructure projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- CPA Certification Required (not optional)
- 8-12 Years of experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager or Head of Finance
- At least 2-6 years of Big 4 Accounting experience Required
- Deep, hands-on operational Accounting foundation
- Must not need sponsorship of any kind for employment
- Experience building or scaling a finance function at an early- stage startup or high- growth company
- Experience managing procurement and AP/AR workflows for a capital project
- Available and willing to be onsite 5 days a week in Downtown St Petersburg, FL
