About the Opportunity
We are exclusively partnering with a high-growth, private equity-backed mechanical and facility solutions platform to recruit a hands-on, operationally focused Controller for their newly acquired ~$50M operating business unit in the South Amboy, NJ area.
With an Accounting Manager already in place managing day-to-day transaction flow, this Controller will step in as the divisional financial leader—driving financial visibility, partnering with operational teams, and guiding system integrations.
What You’ll Do
- Financial Oversight & Reporting: Lead all accounting operations for the ~$50M business unit, delivering timely monthly close cycles, financial statements, and divisional reporting for executive and platform leadership.
- Project Accounting & WIP: Own the job costing and Percentage-of-Completion (PoC) revenue recognition processes, collaborating closely with project managers and field leadership to evaluate job margins and contract performance.
- Systems & Process Evolution: Spearhead accounting systems conversions and workflows (the environment operates on Sage, but conversion experience across major construction ERPs is highly valued) to standardize reporting across the platform.
- Team Leadership & Operational Partnership: Oversee and mentor an existing Accounting Manager while acting as a trusted business advisor to local general management and project delivery teams.
- Cash Flow & Working Capital: Monitor billing schedules, over/under billings, collections, and vendor commitments tied to complex contracting projects.
What We’re Looking For
- Construction / Project Accounting Background: Direct experience in general contracting, mechanical/specialty trade contracting, or project-based construction accounting is essential.
- Technical Mastery: Deep working knowledge of Percentage-of-Completion (PoC) accounting, Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, and job-costing controls.
- Systems Conversion Experience: Demonstrated track record leading or significantly supporting an ERP or financial software integration/conversion.
- Exceptional Communication: Polish and executive presence to present financial insights clearly to both corporate platform executives and field-level operational leaders.
- Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA, CMA, or advanced degree is a plus.
Location & Schedule
- Onsite: 5 days/week in South Amboy, NJ (accessible to Central/North NJ and the NYC metro corridor).
