As the Controller, you will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving all corporate accounting policies, payroll functions, administrative programs, and perform related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Establishes and implements all internal accounting procedures and controls;
- keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets;
- prepares ad-hoc and monthly financial reports (e.g., Balance Sheet, income statements, P&L, cash flow);
- addresses vendor setups, authorizations, and problems;
- maintains the integrity of the data in the payroll system;
- responsible for office keys and security codes;
- performs corporate budgeting, tax planning, reconciliation, and re-forecasting processes;
- maintains checks and balances, redundancies, and internal controls;
- conducts financial analysis, forecasts, and modeling;
- manages annual budget, cash functions, and information technology procedures;
- is a businessperson before a finance person;
- serves as the primary interface with the bank, lenders, CPA, and surety;
- ensures company’s financial activities and reporting are consistent with regulatory guidelines;
- negotiates with vendors;
- ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, sales, and other applicable taxes;
- supports human resources, safety, and various administrative processes (e.g., inventory, record keeping, office equipment);
- supervises, hires, coaches, disciplines, and evaluates staff;
- oversees cash management to optimize the use of cash and minimize the company’s debt;
- responsible for the General Ledger, payroll, accounts receivables, accounts payable, fixed asset depreciation, amortization schedule, credit card, treasury, and bank reconciliations;
- conducts financial statement preparation and analysis;
- establishes credit limits and applications;
- represents the company in all external audits and coordinates year-end audit preparation;
- reviews current cost accounting and job costing systems;
- coordinates administrative functions to ensure efficiency, customer service, and accountability;
- maintains key performance indicators;
- coordinates customer support (e.g., Service Requests, Work Orders, and follow-up);
- supports human resources (e.g., new hire paperwork, employee identification, state, and federal programs) and safety (e.g., SDS, training, injuries);
- maintains phone system (e.g., purchase, extensions, address books, passwords, name assignments);
- performs administrative functions (e.g., record keeping, filing, documentation);
- completes and reviews various forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance;
- distributes paychecks, tracks employee data (e.g., vacation, sick leave, employee status);
- uses Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment; and
- provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, vendors, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner;

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An example of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position includes: at least three (3) years of professional experience involving accounting practices, office management, and organizational procedures.

License: A valid California class C driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this job classification, is required at the time of appointment. Employees in this job classification may be required to use their own vehicle.
Certifications: While a Certified Public Accountant certification is desirable, there are no specific certifications required of this job classification.
Language: Fluent English communication skills are required of this job classification. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
Working Conditions: Work is predominately in an office environment with associated noise, space, and computer screen exposure.
