Onsite Full Time Manufacturing

A well-established, privately held manufacturing company in the Phoenix area is seeking a Controller to join its leadership team, with a clear path to succeed the current CFO in approximately 3–5 years. This organization has been operating for decades and has built a strong reputation as a precision manufacturer supporting highly technical industries including semiconductor equipment and aerospace components.

The business has experienced substantial growth over the past decade and is positioned for continued expansion as demand increases from major global customers. With multiple facilities in the Phoenix area and additional international operations, the company is investing in systems, processes, and financial leadership to support the next stage of growth.

The Opportunity

This is a succession-focused hire. The CFO is intentionally bringing on a Controller who can grow into the top finance seat, and the role has been designed to build toward that transition. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will oversee the accounting organization, partner closely with operations and executive leadership, and take on progressively broader strategic responsibility over time.

The position offers a balanced mix of accounting leadership, financial analysis, and project work today, with direct mentorship from the CFO and growing exposure to ownership, lenders, and long-range planning as the successful candidate prepares to lead the finance function.

The Path to CFO

Over the next 3–5 years, the Controller will be developed as the CFO’s successor through a planned expansion of scope, including:

  • Working side by side with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Building relationships with banking partners and taking a growing role in treasury, lending, and capital decisions.
  • Presenting financial results and recommendations to ownership and the executive team.
  • Contributing to decisions on capital investment, facility expansion, and international operations.
  • Gradually assuming leadership of the full finance organization ahead of the transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting function including general ledger, AP, AR, and payroll oversight.
  • Manage the month-end close process and review consolidated financial reporting.
  • Oversee treasury activities, including cash management and borrowing base reporting.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to identify cost improvements and revenue opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and internal controls aligned with GAAP.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
  • Drive process improvements and support finance-related system enhancements.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff, building a team capable of supporting you as you step into the CFO role.
  • Support the CFO on annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–10+ years of experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with cost accounting and operational finance.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems and financial processes.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and translate insights into business decisions.
  • A genuine desire to grow into a CFO role, with the strategic mindset and executive presence to get there.
  • Exposure to FP&A, treasury, or banking relationships is a strong plus.
  • Collaborative leadership style with strong communication skills and the ability to influence at the executive level.
  • Experience in job shop or complex manufacturing environments is highly valued.
  • CPA or audit background is helpful but not required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary plus discretionary bonus potential
  • 6% match on 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • PTO and flexible scheduling environment

Why Consider This Role

  • Defined succession path to CFO within approximately 3–5 years, with direct mentorship from the current CFO
  • Long-standing, stable organization with strong leadership and a collaborative culture
  • Significant growth driven by major global customers in advanced technology sectors
  • Opportunity to influence operational and financial improvements across the business
  • Leadership team that values work-life balance and invests in long-term development of its people

If you’re a manufacturing finance leader with strong accounting fundamentals, operational insight, and the ambition to become a CFO, this is a rare opportunity to be groomed for the top finance role in a growing organization.
