Our client, an investment firm with its insurance company portfolio, is hiring a Director of Insurance Accounting based in New York.
Responsibilities
- Own statutory accounting for insurance entities: premiums, policy liabilities, claim reserves and reinsurance settlements
- Deliver quarterly and annual statutory filings, including NAIC and state-specific requirements
- Act as the main contact for external audits and state insurance department exams
- Research SAP questions and new pronouncements, and advise on the accounting for new products and transactions
- Lead and coach a finance team based in another office
- Plan and carry out annual on-site audits of third-party administrators
- Partner with investment accounting on consolidated reporting, intercompany balances and allocation of investment income
- Build and maintain controls over insurance accounting operations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in accounting or finance; CPA preferred
- 8+ years in life insurance accounting; holding company or multi-entity experience strongly preferred
- Strong SAP knowledge, plus working knowledge of life insurance GAAP, reinsurance and treaty settlements
- Proven xhqgsiq people and project management
- Comfortable partnering with actuaries on reserves and assumption changes
- Experience working with teams in different locations
- Clear communicator with senior leadership and outside stakeholders
