Colossus Search is representing a fast-growing technical consulting firm in Nashville, TN (hybrid model) who is seeking a strategically minded Controller to manager their day-to-day accounting, guide financial compliance, and support their continued multi-office growth.
Position Summary
The Controller will serve as the operational head of finance, managing all financial and accounting processes across their delivery centers and corporate operations. This role bridges the gap between daily bookkeeping (such as processing payroll, managing AR/AP, and billing tracking) and high-level executive strategic reporting. The Controller ensures that financial data is accurate, GAAP-compliant, and optimized to fuel future expansions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee Bookkeeping and Ledger Integrity: Direct and monitor daily accounting tasks, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), cash flow maintenance, and bank deposits.
- Close & Statement Preparation: Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes. Generate balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Executive Guidance: Deliver clear financial reports to the leadership team, establishing KPIs and forecasting future revenue targets.
Budgeting & Internal Controls
- Budget Alignment: Formulate and regularly review quarterly and annual budgets across all operational departments.
- Mitigate Financial Inefficiencies: Establish, document, and update clear financial procedures and standard expense-reimbursement protocols.
- Contract Optimization: Build financial or risk-assessment projections tailored to client consulting engagements and fixed-term technical projects.
Compliance, Payroll & Audit Support
- Payroll & Compensation: Maintain oversight of staff payroll and ensure seamless processing for multi-state local and nearshore personnel.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure total compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws, coordinating with third-party CPAs for annual tax filings and audits.
Requirements and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a highly numerical business discipline.
- Certification: Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is strongly preferred.
- Experience: 5 to 7+ years of progressive experience in corporate accounting or financial operations, ideally with a background in professional services, consulting, or technology environments.
- Technical Proficiencies: Advanced knowledge of GAAP. Deep expertise with accounting software systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics) and modern enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, uncompromising attention to detail, and top-tier communication skills to interface cleanly with both developers and external stakeholders.
