Controller

A growing real estate-tech company is seeking a Controller who will work directly with the CFO to build and scale the accounting function.

This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys owning the details while improving how accounting operates. You will establish policies, strengthen controls and implement modern systems, using AI and automation to create a more efficient accounting function. As the business grows, you will have the opportunity to hire a team and expand into broader finance leadership.

Controller Responsibilities:

• Own accounting operations, including AP/AR, the general ledger, accruals, reconciliations and monthly close.
• Manage accounting for loan transactions, funding facilities and investor settlements.
• Establish accounting policies for complex transactions and maintain GAAP compliance.
• Build and document internal controls, coordinate audits and improve reporting readiness.
• Lead an accounting system implementation and automate manual processes across financial and operational systems.
• Prepare accurate financial reporting for the CFO, board and financing partners.
• Build and develop the accounting team as the company scales.

Controller Qualifications:

• Approximately 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful ownership of accounting operations.
• At least 3 years of accounting experience within residential real estate lending.
• Strong technical knowledge across relevant areas such as loan origination, securitization, servicing rights and hedge accounting.
• Experience owning monthly close and leading an audit or accounting system implementation.
• Confidence making accounting judgments and establishing policies where processes are still developing.
• Comfort working closely with technology teams and an interest in AI and automation.
• Willingness to personally handle daily accounting while building the function.

Controller Preferred qualifications:

• Active CPA.
• Big Four accounting background.
• Experience within a growing technology or financial services company.
• Demonstrated success using automation to reduce manual accounting work.
