Controller – Houston, TX | $125K–$140K + 15–20% Bonus
Build the Accounting Foundation for a National Luxury Smart Home Brand Scaling Toward $100M+
We're hiring a Controller to architect the accounting foundation of a national luxury smart home company scaling toward $100M+. You'll own accounting operations and the integrity of the general ledger across 15+ branches, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer .
You'll run the close, keep the books clean, lead the accounting team, and build the systems and controls that transform 15+ independent entities into one unified, audit-ready, PE-grade financial operation. The accounting infrastructure is yours to design and build from the ground up.
This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leadership role for a CPA-credentialed accounting leader who thrives on bringing discipline and rigor to fast-growing, multi-location businesses. You'll design the close process, build the reconciliation systems, implement the controls, and create the SOPs that power a national platform.
About the Company
Our client is the nation's leading luxury residential technology integrator — the only scaled, national luxury smart home company in the United States. They partner with ultra-high-net-worth homeowners, elite architects, custom builders, and interior designers to create seamless smart home experiences: lighting and shade control, whole-home audio/video, climate automation, security, networking, and integrated systems.
Headquartered in Houston, Texas and operating across the US with 15+ branches, they are transforming from a collection of independent businesses into one cohesive national platform, building toward $100M in revenue and beyond.
With backing from Genesis Park (invested October 2024) , the company has fresh capital and strategic support to invest in talent, operations, and aggressive national growth. The foundation is there — talented teams, premium clients, and growing revenue — and you'll build the accounting infrastructure that powers the next chapter.
What You'll Own
You will own accounting operations and the integrity of the general ledger across every branch. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer , you'll run the close, keep the books clean, and lead the accounting team that ensures every number is accurate, timely, and trustworthy.
- Month-End Close – Run a disciplined, on-time close process across all branches and consolidate into a corporate P&L leadership can trust
- General Ledger Integrity – Own the GL and chart of accounts; keep NetSuite as the single source of truth, reconciled to every sub-ledger
- AP, AR & Payroll – Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll/billing across the branch network with standardized, scalable processes
- Internal Controls & SOPs – Design and enforce controls and accounting SOPs that hold up branch to branch as the company scales to $100M+
You're building the financial backbone of a national brand.
Why This Role Matters
A Company Scaling Fast
PE-backed and unifying 15+ independent companies into one national brand. Multi-entity consolidation, branch-level financial integrity, and a trusted general ledger are mission-critical. Every system, every control, every process is yours to design and own.
Direct Partnership with the CFO
You'll report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and be the CFO's right hand in establishing financial truth and building scalable accounting infrastructure across the entire organization.
Career-Defining Opportunity
This is a high-impact role where you'll build the accounting foundation for a PE-backed company scaling aggressively. You'll have direct access to executive leadership and the opportunity to shape how a national brand operates financially.
Your First 12–18 Months: Three Strategic Priorities
1. Own the Close
Establish a disciplined, on-time month-end and year-end close process across all branches. Consolidate everything into a corporate P&L that leadership can trust. Build the rhythm and rigor that makes the close routine and reliable — every single month.
2. Keep the Ledger Clean
Take full ownership of the general ledger and chart of accounts. Ensure NetSuite is the single source of truth and stays reconciled to every sub-ledger — AP, AR, inventory, payroll. Lead the monthly reconciliation cadence so financial data stays trustworthy as the company grows. Nothing rolls forward unreconciled.
3. Build Controls That Scale
Design and enforce internal controls and accounting SOPs that hold up branch to branch. Train branch-level staff. Create the infrastructure that allows the company to scale without losing accuracy or visibility.
Who We're Looking For: Your DNA
Architect of Order – You're energized by building accounting infrastructure in complex, multi-site environments. You see messy reconciliations and think, "I can fix this."
Hands-On Leader – You'll personally run reconciliations, work directly in NetSuite, and be side-by-side with your team during month-end close. You lead by example.
Disciplined & Rigorous – You understand that accurate, timely financial reporting is the foundation everything else is built on. You're obsessive about reconciliations and hold yourself and your team to the highest standards.
Builder Mentality – You want to design the controls, standardize the processes, and create the SOPs that will support the company as it scales. You see this as a blank canvas.
Personal Integrity & Accountability – You're open about what you know and what you need to find out. This role demands the highest level of integrity — when you give an answer, people know it's grounded in truth.
Growth-Oriented – You're eager to develop your skills, take on increasing responsibility, and make a lasting impact on a scaling organization.
Must-Haves: Required Experience
- CPA required
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 2+ years as a Controller or Assistant Controller
- Multi-location, multi-entity business experience required
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP , month-end close, reconciliations, and internal control frameworks
- Strong hands-on ERP experience required (NetSuite strongly preferred)
- Experience managing an accounting team
- Technical excellence — you love GAAP, see the world in black and white, and raise flags when you see issues
- Must pass both criminal and financial background checks
What You'll Be Doing
