Controller
Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite)
Our client is hiring a Controller in Grand Rapids, MI. New ownership is modernizing how the business runs, and they need a hands-on Controller to own the accounting function. This is a player-coach role. You’ll roll up your sleeves on the day-to-day, lead a small team, and become the go-to person for the company’s financial health.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full month-end close and deliver accurate, timely financial statements
- Manage accounts payable, bank reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Lead and develop a small accounting team and shape roles as the team evolves
- Oversee insurance, benefits support, and general administrative operations
- Partner with ownership and outside CPA advisors on year-end and audit support
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including independently owning month-end close
- Strong command of reconciliations, accruals, and GL
- A roll-up-your-sleeves attitude. No task is too small, and you enjoy both doing and leading
- A self-starter who finds answers and fixes problems on their own
- Personable and collaborative. You add to a team culture, not just a spreadsheet
- ERP implementation experience or AS/400 exposure a plus
- CPA not required
