Onsite Contract Controlling

Build financial clarity for a hands on construction business

TinMan Enterprises is a structural and miscellaneous steel contractor serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area. We are seeking a Controller who enjoys owning the accounting function, solving problems, and working directly with leadership and operations to improve project profitability.

You will lead day-to-day accounting while personally handling reconciliations, investigating discrepancies, and turning financial data into useful business decisions. You will work closely with our President, Office Manager, Operations Manager, project teams, and outside CPA to keep the books accurate, cash needs visible, and financial processes dependable.

What You Will Do

  • Own the general ledger and monthly, quarterly, and year-end close; prepare journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and accurate financial statements.
  • Maintain job costing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. Review project budgets, change orders, work in progress, revenue recognition, and project closeouts.
  • Partner with Operations to identify cost overruns, overtime trends, unbilled costs, and margin concerns early—and help resolve the underlying issues.
  • Oversee customer billing, accounts receivable, collections, retainage, and delinquent-account follow-up, including coordination of the lien process.
  • Maintain cash-flow forecasts and give leadership clear visibility into cash needs, receivables, payables, financial risks, and upcoming commitments.
  • Oversee accounts payable, purchasing and expense controls, vendor records, W-9 documentation, and year-end 1099 processes.
  • Review weekly payroll prepared by the Office Manager; reconcile payroll taxes, benefits, deductions, and labor allocations to projects.
  • Prepare financial and operating reports covering job profitability, WIP, labor, overtime, and budget-to-actual results; lead budgeting and rolling forecasts.
  • Strengthen internal controls, approval responsibilities, and documented procedures. Coordinate with outside accounting, tax, banking, and insurance partners.

What You Bring

  • At least seven years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated job-costing experience and strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, cash management, and payroll accounting.
  • Construction, subcontracting, manufacturing, or other project-based accounting experience strongly preferred; WIP accounting experience is a plus.
  • QuickBooks Online proficiency strongly preferred, including reconciliations, journal entries, reporting, accounts payable and receivable, and month-end close.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and the ability to work effectively across accounting, payroll, timekeeping, and operational systems.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. CPA or CMA credentials are a plus, but are not required with strong relevant experience.
  • A current Texas Notary Public commission, or the ability to obtain and maintain one within 60 days of hire.
  • Sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the initiative to investigate discrepancies and follow problems through to resolution.

Benefits

  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching, subject to plan terms.
  • Medical insurance with 70% of the eligible premium paid by TinMan and 30% paid by the employee.
  • Employer-paid dental and vision insurance, subject to plan terms.
  • A $50 monthly employer stipend toward elected supplemental coverage, such as life, accident, or critical illness insurance.
  • 3 Weeks Paid Time Off
  • Company-paid, preapproved job-related training and continuing education.

Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements, company policies, and plan terms. Medical, dental, vision, and supplemental coverage have waiting periods. Benefits may change.
