Controller

JC Porter is conducting a search for a Controller on behalf of our client in the Denver metro area. This role will lead accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls while partnering with leadership to support planning and business decisions.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical expertise, experience developing teams, and the ability to improve processes as business needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Accounting Operations: Lead daily accounting activities, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Close and Financial Reporting: Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Financial Analysis: Partner with FP&A and executive leadership to review financial results, investigate variances, resolve accounting issues, and provide actionable recommendations.
• Technical Accounting: Research, evaluate, and document complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition under ASC 606 and leases under ASC 842.
• Internal Controls: Develop, document, implement, and test accounting policies, procedures, and controls that strengthen reporting accuracy and accountability.
• Audit and Compliance: Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and accounting partners. Coordinate audits, quarterly compliance reporting, and applicable tax compliance requirements.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Support annual budgeting, financial planning, cash flow projections, revenue forecasting, and scenario analysis.
• Process Improvement: Improve accounting workflows, reporting systems, and data quality while maintaining effective controls.
• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, establishing clear responsibilities and performance expectations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• CPA designation.
• At least five years of demonstrated Controller experience.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, technical accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Proven ability to lead teams and contribute to departmental strategy.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, presentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work in a changing environment.
