Our client is an employee-owned general contractor based in downtown Chicago. They have built commercial and high-end residential projects for more than 25 years, and people stay: the typical employee has been there about 8 years.
This is a planned succession. Their longtime finance leader is getting ready to retire, and they want a hands-on Controller to step in, learn the business, and run all of accounting and finance. You will work side by side with the owners and the project teams.
What you'll own
- Lead and grow the accounting team
- Month-end close, financial reporting, budgets, and forecasts
- Cash flow, AP, AR, payroll (including union), and fixed assets
- Job costing, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and project billing
- Work with project teams on budgets, profit, and cash needs
- Bank, surety, and insurance relationships
- Audit and tax work with outside firms
- Better controls, systems, and processes
What you bring
- 8+ years in accounting and finance, with time leading a team
- Construction accounting, ideally at a general contractor
- Hands-on job costing and WIP
- Comfort working with owners and project leaders
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Nice to have
- CMiC or a similar construction ERP
- ESOP experience
- CPA, CMA, or MBA (CPA is not required)
- Union payroll
Details
- 5 days onsite in a modern downtown office (West Loop area)
- $150,000 to $180,000 base, plus bonus
