Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. This individual will oversee core accounting activities, manage and develop accounting staff, strengthen financial processes and controls, and help improve reporting through better use of technology and automation.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who is comfortable managing both the technical and operational sides of the department. This position will work closely with senior leadership and provide financial information and analysis to support business planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll-related accounting, fixed assets, and cash activity.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Analyze financial results, identify variances, and prepare management reporting.
- Maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support tax reporting and compliance activities in coordination with outside resources when necessary.
- Coordinate external audit activities and maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and other financial planning activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce manual processes, and strengthen accounting workflows.
- Oversee accounting systems and related financial technology.
- Lead improvements involving automation, reconciliations, reporting, and data accuracy.
- Develop reports and dashboards that provide leadership with timely financial information.
- Manage, coach, and develop accounting team members.
- Establish clear procedures, documentation, and cross-training to ensure continuity within the department.
- Partner with leadership and other departments to communicate financial results and support organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- At least 3 years of experience supervising or leading accounting professionals.
- Strong hands-on experience managing month-end close and preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, reporting, and accounting processes.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience developing accounting staff.
- High level of professionalism, judgment, discretion, and integrity when handling confidential financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation.
- Previous public accounting or audit experience.
- Experience with financial reporting, reconciliation, automation, or business intelligence tools.
- Experience participating in an ERP implementation, conversion, or major system enhancement.
- Experience working with complex accounting structures, consolidations, or multiple business entities.

This position operates in a hybrid environment and may require additional hours during month-end, year-end, audit periods, or other peak accounting cycles.
