The Controller is the senior accounting leader in the organization, reporting directly to the Director of Finance. This role is responsible for the accuracy of the company's financial statements, the integrity of job costing and inventory records, and the reliability of the cash position. This position manages the accounting team and works closely with the operations team and leadership team to provide the financial visibility needed to understand day-to-day business performance.

- Prepare the consolidated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement each period along with branch specific financial statements
- Produce department-level profit and loss reports

- Prepare weekly KPIs and monthly reporting package for leadership that covers financial performance, cash position, AR aging, and any items requiring attention
- Lock accounting periods and maintain close discipline across the team
Balance sheet integrity
- Own the accuracy of the full balance sheet — every account reconciled monthly with supporting documentation
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules for equipment and vehicles across all locations
- Ensure accounts receivable, inventory, work in progress, accounts payable, and accrued liabilities are correctly stated each period

- Manage the transition to a single chart of accounts, policies, close process, and reporting structure on a defined timeline and participate in the project to identify and migrate branches into consistent systems
- Ensure shared costs — including management fees, shared insurance, equipment loans between branches, and allocated overhead — are documented under a formal intercompany agreement and recorded consistently in both entities each period
Cash Flow Management
- Maintain a rolling short-term cash flow forecast — updated regularly and presented to Finance Director with a clear view of upcoming inflows, outflows, and any projected shortfalls
- Monitor collections and work with billing to accelerate cash receipts on overdue project invoices and service accounts
- Provide strategic oversight and final approval of accounts payable, including vendor invoice processing and payment runs
- Provide final oversight and approval of payroll to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and proper allocation of labor costs to jobs and departments.
Tax, compliance, and audit
- Manage completion and filing of tax returns on time each period
- Manage the annual financial statement review and compilation process — prepare supporting schedules and serve as the primary contact for the outside CPA firm
- Review and approve payroll tax remittances, W-2, and 1099 filings to ensure compliance with all deadlines
Team and process leadership
- Directly manage accounting staff — set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and develop team members toward greater independence and capability
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and alignment with SAV’s Core Values
- Document accounting policies and procedures, including job costing methodology, inventory valuation, and revenue recognition
- Drive process improvements that reduce close time, improve accuracy, and eliminate manual work
