Job Description:
A power plant control room operator monitors, controls, and adjusts power generation systems from a central station to ensure safe and efficient electricity delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Track generation output, voltages, temperatures, pressures, and fluid flows using distributed control systems (DCS) and computer interfaces.
- Execute planned plant startups, shutdowns, and load adjustments based on grid demand and commercial commitments.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions quickly, respond to system alarms, and initiate corrective actions or emergency procedures.
- Communicate continuously with field operators, maintenance crews, and grid dispatchers during shift handovers and plant activities.
- Enforce strict safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and environmental regulations.
- High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training in a related field is strongly preferred. (1, 2)
- 5+ years of industrial plant or power generation experience working with steam boilers, turbines, or auxiliary systems. (1)
- 2+ years as a control room operator running DCS, SCADA or HMI.
